Enrollment and Next Steps
College-Level Public Speaking Program Enrollment
Enrollment in Empowering Speech Program
The Empowering Speech program is not an open-enrollment class. It is a structured, college-level communication program designed for students who are ready to take responsibility for their preparation, performance, and growth. This public speaking course for college-bound students maintains limited enrollment to ensure serious instruction, structured feedback, and high standards.
Participation requires commitment, not prior experience.
Who Is a Good Fit for This Public Speaking Program
Empowering Speech is designed for students who:
- Are academically motivated and capable of working independently
- Are willing to prepare, practice, and accept feedback
- Want to develop confidence through discipline, not shortcuts
- Are ready for college-level expectations and accountability
Students do not need to be:
- Outgoing
- Naturally confident
- Experienced public speakers
They do need to be willing to do the work.
Limited Enrollment and Program Expectations
Students enrolled in Empowering Speech are expected to:
- Complete assigned preparation and coursework
- Deliver speeches publicly and consistently
- Participate in peer feedback and discussion
- Apply instruction intentionally and responsibly
- Take ownership of their progress
Confidence is built through action. Growth follows effort.
I often tell students something very simple:
If I have to choose between Student A (naturally talented, confident, and polished in front of an audience, but unable to follow simple direction) and Student B (who may look awkward, struggle with fluency, or even have a stutter, but is able to follow simple direction) — I will always choose to work with Student B.
The reason is straightforward: the work itself is simple. The principles of effective public speaking are clear, learnable, and uncomplicated; which is why the Empowering Speech workbook is only 17 pages long.
Understanding the material is not difficult. What is difficult is choosing to apply it consistently.
Talent without discipline does not lead to improvement. But effort, coachability, and follow-through leads to measurable improvement.
Empowering Speech is built for students who are willing to listen, apply instruction, and take responsibility for their progress. The ability to follow simple direction matters more than natural ability because it is what allows growth to occur.
Instruction, Feedback, and Access
Empowering Speech is intentionally instructor-led.
All student coursework, speeches, and written preparation are personally reviewed, critiqued, and evaluated by the instructor. Grading and feedback are not automated, outsourced, or delegated.
Students communicate directly with the instructor through Canvas LMS, the same learning management system used by accredited colleges and universities. This ensures clear expectations, documented feedback, and accountable communication.
In addition to asynchronous instruction, optional group Zoom meetings may be offered during a term to provide clarification, reinforcement of core principles, and guided discussion. These sessions are structured, purposeful, and aligned with course objectives.
When appropriate and feasible, limited optional in-person enrichment meetings may also be offered, typically one or two times during a term. These sessions are supplemental, not required, and are designed to reinforce instruction rather than replace online coursework.
Parents and charter school partners can be assured that instruction, assessment, and feedback remain consistent, rigorous, and instructor-directed regardless of delivery format.
How to Apply to the Public Speaking Program
Because Empowering Speech maintains high standards and limited enrollment, the process is deliberate.
The typical enrollment process involves:
- Initial Inquiry: Families submit an inquiry to determine program fit and availability.
- Review & Placement: Students are placed based on readiness, age, and instructional alignment.
- Enrollment Confirmation: Accepted students receive enrollment details, course access, and expectations.
This process ensures that every student enters the program prepared to benefit fully from the experience.
Course Delivery & Instructional Standards
Empowering Speech is delivered through Canvas LMS, the same learning management system used by accredited colleges and universities.
Students receive:
- Structured modules
- Clear assignments
- Recorded and live instructional components (as applicable)
- Instructor and peer feedback
- Real-audience speaking requirements
The experience is rigorous, human, and accountable, even in an asynchronous format.
Outcomes That Last
Students who complete Empowering Speech leave with more than polished speeches.
They develop:
- Organized thinking
- Verbal clarity
- Confidence under pressure
- Leadership presence
- Personal accountability
These skills transfer directly into academics, interviews, leadership roles, and professional life.
Ready to Take the Next Step?
If you are seeking a communication program that treats confidence as a skill to be built, expectations as standards to be met, and students as capable individuals, Empowering Speech may be the right fit. The next step is to begin the inquiry process:
Confidence is not given… it is earned: One decision, one preparation, one performance at a time.
