Academically Minded Youth
Public Speaking for College-bound Students
Leadership communication skills for Academically Minded Youth
Public speaking is not an extracurricular skill. It is the primary tool through which thinking becomes visible, leadership becomes possible, and competence is recognized.
Speech is empowering academically, professionally, socially, and politically. It is the skill through which ideas are clarified, authority is established, and opportunities are accessed.
The Empowering Speech program provides rigorous, college-level communication training for academically minded students who are expected to prepare, perform, and take responsibility for their own development. And it is not limited to homeschoolers.
This program emphasizes:
- Structured thinking and mental organization
- Clear, disciplined verbal expression
- Confidence built through preparation, not hype
- Real-world communication demands over abstract theory
Students are taught how to stand, speak, and think in ways that immediately transfer to classrooms, interviews, leadership roles, and high-stakes environments.
Excellence, Not Entertainment
This is not a confidence club or a casual speaking class.
Instruction is demanding, standards-based, and accountability-driven. Students are expected to do the work because excellence is never accidental, and confidence is built through competence.
The same principles used in collegiate public speaking and competitive speech environments are adapted for younger students with care, clarity, and rigor.
Who This Is For
This program is especially well-suited for:
- Academically strong middle and high school students
- College-bound students preparing for interviews, presentations, or leadership roles
- Students whose abilities exceed their confidence or verbal performance
- Families seeking serious skill development, not passive enrichment
Instruction may be delivered through private coaching, small cohorts, or structured online coursework.
Students who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate of Completion documenting fulfillment of all course requirements and performance standards.
About the Instructor
Instruction is led by a tenured professor of public speaking at Los Angeles Valley College with more than three decades of experience teaching and coaching communication in academic, competitive, and professional environments.
The same standards that govern effective communication in the real world shape every aspect of this program.
